Bus Ride To The Zoo

A 2 track disco single (8m 35s) — released December 3rd 2007 on Hole In The Sky

Hole In The Sky is an independent record label based in Australia that is dedicated to releasing material that pushes the boundaries of popular music. Digging reggae, soul, rock, jazz, disco and everything psychedelic, each and every release stands alone as a unique transmission from the inner soul of the label. On this, the first release from the label, producer/drummer Fred Cherry's drops some low slung discoid dub on 'Busride To The Zoo' with live instruments, samplers and analogue reel to reel tape machines all colliding to create a psychedelic, percussive work-out sounding like The Stooges crossed with Liquid Liquid. On the B side, the Templates deliver the downbeat, soulful 'Daylight' which is guided by upright bass and swirling harp. The results are a deep and stiring blend of DJ Shadow and Neil Young. Strictly limited 10" vinyl.

They certainly know how to do things differently down under don’t they? The debut release on this rather special new label is jam packed with quirky/eclectic genius from new comers Fred Cherry and The Templates. The A side takes a slutty dub disco groove down to a dingy basement for some late night naughtiness, sounding like The Rapture remixed by Larry Levan, whilst the B side throws some psyche guitars and vocal into the mix. A promising start. - IDJ
